On these pages, you find various Java projects and Java pages. I have been using Java since its beginning. It was a pleasure most of the time. Java is a mature and stable language, easy to program. The best feature is that it is platform independent. It includes debugging and profiling tools, meaningful exception handling, and there are numerous development IDEs available, among which I have chosen Eclipse. Java comes with a complete library, including multimedia, cryptography, or mathematical API.
In know that Java is not liked by Linux freaks. They prefer Linux only programs, and condemn Java to be slow and ineffective. Moreover, Java was not open source in the beginning. I ask to rethink and have a new look at Java. First of all, there are other nice systems besides Linux (and Windows). Secondly, Java is now fast. On modern computers, speed is the smallest problem. And most important, it is reliable, something which is not always true for native Linux tools.
It is a pity that the security, which is built into Java, is not fully exploited yet. Users seem not to like sandboxes. However, since Java is a controlled system within another system, it could easily be configured to create safe and usable applications. In fact, it contains this security, but it is not used to full extend.
Microsoft has done a lot to harm Java, before they realized that Java could be its partner. Still, Internet Explorer is treating Java like Active-X content or Java-Script, which are completely different technologies. Users thus have to explicitly enable all active content on Java pages, instead of enabling only Java.
Anyway, have fun looking around these pages.
